About
Hi, my name is Maeve Williams (Kennedy), I’m originally from the south coast of Sydney. and now I live in the beautiful town of Wanaka.
Wanaka has been my training ground with it’s strong and inspiring people and great natural resources it’s helped me grow as an athlete. As a child I grew up surfing. I worked on the beaches as a lifeguard and then progress to emergency services as a firefighter.
I didn’t take up running or bike riding until my mid 20s.
What started as a hobby grew into passion.
I started trail running races with my brother who lives in the Blue Mountains.
I have always liked challenging myself, it wasn’t until this time that I realised I was competitive.
When I moved to New Zealand during Covid, my husband Mark saw my ambition and steered me in the right direction with a coach and the right equipment.
As soon as the world opened back up I went over to race Aussie champs. I won the elite female’s, this gave me the confidence to enter Xterra Asia Pacific championships.
In April 2023 I entered the Xterra Asia Pacific championships in Taiwan, I got 5th overall.
September 2023 I raced Xterra world championship in Molveno Italy.
With a bad bike accident the day before and noting to lose I got 7th in the short course, and 8th in the full distance.
After this season, I knew where I had to improve and found a coach willing to take me to the next level. We focus a lot on my bike riding strength.
Although I was working full-time I stayed very disciplined in my training. In August 2024, I raced ITU world championship. I got 3rd in the elite women’s, a really close race that I was proud of.
I then raised the cross duathlon a day later and got another 3rd.
In March 2025 I raced Asia Pacific champs in Dunsborough, Western Australia.
I got 3rd in the short course and 4th in the long course.
Training and exercise has become a way of life for me. I treat it as a reward, with a busy work life this time is special to me and even on the hard days I find joy in movement.
Although racing can be stressful, I love the challenge and will enter lots of different styles of racing to test my ability.
